Tripura: BJP likely to form govt for 2nd consecutive term

Agartala, March 2 (IANS) The ruling BJP is likely to form government for the second consecutive term in Tripura as it has won four seats and is leading in 29 others in the 60-member Assembly.

Counting of votes is in progress in 60 centres at 21 locations across the northeastern state.

According to the latest available trends and announcements of results, the tribal-based Tipra Motha Party (TMP), which for the first time contested the Assembly election in 42 seats, was leading in 12 seats followed by CPI(M) with leads in 11 seats and Congress in three seats.

The candidate of BJP ally Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) is leading in Jolaibari seat in southern Tripura.

BJP candidates won in Amarpur, Kamalasagar, Mohanpur and Santir Bazar.

Tripura Chief Minister and BJP candidate Manik Saha is leading in Town Bordowali seat, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma is ahead in Charilam seat, Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik in Dhanpur seat, Rampada Jamatia in Bagma, Sushanta Chowdhury in Majlishpur, Ratan Chakraborty in Khayerpur, Surajit Datta in Ramnagar and Ram Prasad Paul in Surjyamaninagar.

The CPI(M) candidates are leading in 11 seats, including Pratapgarh, Barjala, Bamutia, Belonia, Hrishamukh, Sabroom, Sonamura.

Among the important CPI(M) candidates leading are state party Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury (Sabroom seat), Sudip Sarkar (Barjala), Dipankar Sen (Belonia), Shyamal Chakraborty (Sonamura).

Congress, which contested the February 16 Assembly elections in seat sharing adjustments with the Left parties, is leading in Agartala, Banamalipur, and Kailashahar seats.

The Congress candidates leading in the counting of votes include Sudip Roy Barman in Agartala seat, Gopal Chandra Roy in Banamalipur seat and state Congress President Birajit Sinha in Kailashahar seat.

Among the important TMP candidates leading include Chitta Ranjan Debbarma (Ambassa seat), Pathan Lal Jamatia (Ampinagar), Animesh Debbarma (Asharambari) and Paul Dangshu (Karamchara).

In the February 16 elections to the 60 seat Tripura Assembly, 89.95 per cent of the 28.14 lakh voters exercised their franchise and will decide the fate of 259 candidates, including 31 women.

Nagaland: NDPP-BJP alliance heading towards victory

Kohima, March 2 (IANS) The NDPP-BJP alliance is heading towards victory in Nagaland, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI) trends.

As per ECI, NDPP is leading in 24 seats with one victory and its ally BJP is leading in 23 seats with two wins in the 60-member Assembly where the election was conducted in 59 seats.

Congress is reduced to two seats and is way behind NCP which is leading in five seats. LJP(RV) headed by Chirag Paswan is leading on three seats.

Assembly polls were held on Monday in 59 of the 60 Assembly constituencies in Nagaland, where 85.90 per cent of 13.16 lakh had electors cast their ballots.

In Nagaland, ruling BJP candidate Kazheto Kinimi was re-elected unopposed from the Akuluto Assembly constituency after his only opponent and Congress nominee Khekashe Sumi withdrew his candidature.

Tripura polls: At 31, BJP crosses half-way mark

New Delhi, March 2 (IANS) BJP is all set to return to power in Tripura by winning 31 of the 60 seats as counting for the February 27 is underway.

While BJP has won 31 seats, CPI(M) 12, Tipra Mortha Party 11, Congress at 4 and others at 1 till 11.27 a.m.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha leading in his Town Bardowali constituency. The BJP candidate has secured 3377 EVM votes, as per ECI, which accounts for 50.5 per cent of votes.

INC’s Asish Kumar Saha is second with 3033 votes, accounting for 45.36 per cent of the total votes.

The BJP had created a record in Tripura in the 2018 election with a victory on 36 seats, ending 25 years of Left parties rule.

The outcome of the keenly-fought battle in the three northeastern states is likely to have a bearing on the prospects of national parties in the series of state polls later this year.

While elections have been held in Nagaland, Tripura and Meghalaya, six more states Mizoram, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka will go for polls later this year before the big battle of Lok Sabha in 2024.

Meghalaya polls 2023: NPP leading in 23 seats

Shillong, March 2 (IANS) Conrad Sangma’s National People’s Party (NPP) is maintaining a lead in 23 seats as the counting of votes got underway on Thursday for the February 27 Meghalaya Assembly polls.

Compared to the two seats they won in the 2018 elections, the BJP is ahead in almost 10 seats, according to the early trends in counting.

While the Trinamool Congress is leading in 10 seats, the Congress party, which was the single largest party in Meghalaya in the last Assembly election, is trailing. The grand-old party is leading in only nine seats.

The other regional party, the United Democratic Party (UDP), has been projected to win six seats.

Notably, UDP was a part of the NPP-led government in Meghalaya for the last five years, although the party has not forged an alliance with the NPP and fought the election separately.

Tripura: BJP, CPI(M), Congress neck-and-neck after counting postal ballots

Agartala, March 2 (IANS) After the counting of postal ballots, the ruling BJP and opposition CPI(M)-led Left Front and Congress candidates are neck-and-neck in 10 of the 60 Assembly constituencies in Tripura.

BJP candidates are leading in Bordowali, Ramnagar, Khayerpur and Majlishpur seats, while the CPI(M) is leading in Pratapgarh, Barjala, and Bamutia seats.

Congress, which contested the February 16 Assembly elections in seat-sharing adjustments with the Left parties, is leading in Agartala and Banamalipur seats.

Tipra Motha Party, a tribal-based party, is leading in Simna seat.

“After the completion of counting of postal ballots, counting of votes stored in the EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) would be taken up,” the poll official said.
