Shillong, June 12: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads & Building) Prestone Tynsong today assured constructon of the road from Syntumaw to Umdohkha including a major bridge over Umsiang river at Pahamdingngan for the benefit of 22 villages of Ri Bhoi district.
"He (Tynsong) has assured the delegation that it will be taken up immediately. We have discussed thoroughly and we hope that it will be included in the PMGSY-IV during the current financial year," UDP legislator from Nongpoh Mayralborn Syiem told reporters.
Syiem along with NPP legislator from Mawhati Charles Marngar led a delegation of the Joint Action Committee of the 22 villages and submitted a memorandum to Tynsong for necessary intervention and action.
The JAC said that the road from Syntumaw to Umdohkhar (10km) is very crucial as it serves as the only accessible route connecting 22 villages to essential public services such as markets, schools, healthcare facilities, and administrative offices.
"Presently, the lack of a proper motorable road causes significant hardships especially during the monsoon season, when the path becomes muddy, slippery, and even impassable. This affects not only the transportation of goods and emergency services but also the movement of students, the elderly, and the sick. We strongly believe that the construction of this 6 km stretch of road will bring transformational development to our area, improving connectivity, supporting rural livelihoods and promoting economic and social upliftment," they stated in the memorandum.
