KHADC to aid students’ research on Khasi community

Shillong, July 8: Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Pyniaid Sing Syiem has announced that the council will provide scholarships to students and research scholars who are willing to do proper research on the tradition, culture, customs and practice of the Khasi community.

Speaking to media persons yesterday, Syiem said that Meghalaya, especially the Khasi community has rich traditions, cultures, customs and practices but there is a lack of documentation hence the present generation and people from outside the state do not have enough knowledge on the richness of the community.

Syiem said that the executive committee (EC) of the KHADC had given the task to the executive member (EM) in-charge of education to come out with criteria on how students and research scholars can apply for this scholarship.

He added that through the scholarship, the district council will encourage the students and research scholars to pursue with their research and come out will a full copy or documentation which will be kept in the council’s library for the people to learn about the richness of the Khasi community when it comes to tradition, culture, customs and practice and others.
