Work orders under PMAY distributed at Mawlyndep

Shillong, Sept 14: Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma today distributed Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY) work orders to beneficiaries of Mawlyndep Village, Umsning C&RD Block, Ri-Bhoi District, Meghalaya under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY-II).

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, said that development should reach every corner of the state. “Unless development does not touch the lives of the people of the state in all regions development is incomplete,” he said.

He further said that the government has tried to be as broad as possible and has come up with micro and macro programs at different levels to bring inclusive development to the people of the state.

“The PMAY program of today is another step forward in achieving inclusive development and it is the aim of the government to achieve saturation in certain social sectors in the next few years,” he added.

The Chief Minister further elaborated on the target of the government in five main sectors like Housing for all, Power connectivity for all, connectivity and accessibility to all villages, water connection for all and mobile connectivity.

He also informed that about 1,30,000 houses amounting to approximately 1700 crores will be sanctioned and constructed this financial year to ensure that a maximum number of people are benefitted. He also urged the beneficiaries to use the money sanctioned for which it is sanctioned.

“The Rangbah Shnongs, the BDOs, the Project Directors need to sensitive to the public and the beneficiaries to use the money for what the purpose it is sanctioned,” he said.

He also highlighted some of the projects in the pipeline for Mawlyndep and adjoining areas. In total 97 beneficiaries from Mawlyndep village received work orders.

Also present were, Dr W Kharlukhi, MP, Rajya Sabha, MLA Umsning, C Lyngdoh, MDC, Umsning, Macdalyne Sawkmie and senior officials from the district administration.

CCTV surveillance to ensure safety in Iewduh

Shillong, Sept 14: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) today decided to put Iewduh – the oldest traditional market in the region – under CCTV surveillance to ensure the safety and security of traders and the general public.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Committee on Safety, Security and Cleanliness of Iewduh was convened by the KHADC chief executive member (CEM) Pyniaid Sing Syiem and attended by EM in-charge market Grace Mary Kharpuri, EM in-charge development Carnes Sohshang and representatives of various localities – Mawkhar, Umsohsun, Mission Compound, Wahthapbru, Qualapatty, Riatsamthiah and Wahingdoh – besides officials from the district administration.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Syiem informed that the Committee has decided to seek funds from the Fifteen Finance Commission to construct and renovate public toilets, drainage systems and install new water pipes at Iewduh.

“The committee has also decided to install CCTV cameras and solar lightings in and around Iewduh to monitor any untoward incidents and to instil a sense of safety and security among the traders and market goers,” he said.

The CEM also said that the committee has also decided to conduct an inspection in Iewduh for the installation of a check gate to monitor the entry and exit of people and to prevent theft and anti-social elements, especially during nighttime.

Meanwhile, the committee has also decided to ban overnight staying in Iewduh and also to take action against shop owners who converted their shops into residence complexes and against those involved in gambling.

Speaker chairs meeting on new Assembly building

Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma chaired a meeting of the High Powered Committee on the construction of the new Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang.

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Deputy Speaker Timothy D Shira, legislators Charles Pyngrope, Lahkmen Rymbui, and Banteidor Lyngdoh, Chief Secretary DP Wahlang, Commissioner & Secretary, Meghalaya Assembly, Dr Andrew Simons and other government officials.

After the meeting, the Assembly Speaker informed that the HPC meeting was held to give administrative approval to the new design of the dome as well as financial approval citing the increase of scope of work.

He stated that the new design has been vetted by IIT Roorkee and IIT Guwahati, and added that construction work of the building will proceed now.

‘The HPC sat to give administrative approval (to the new dome design) and also there was some financial approval required. The scope of work has also increased,’ the Speaker said.

‘After Eid work will resume in full swing,’ the Speaker said.

He also informed that the HPC has appointed a Programme Monitoring Committee (PMC) as per the observations made by IIT Guwahati in the report on the collapse of the dome.

He also informed that the PWD & PMC has been instructed to look at the second phase of construction simultaneously.
