Shillong, Sept 15: The Meghalaya government will soon decide on the implementation of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security (Amendment) Bill, 2020 after receiving the response from the Centre recently.

Informing this today, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “We got the response from the Government of India (on MRRSAB) and now we are discussing in the State government on how to proceed further.”

He said that the issue related to the inner line permit (ILP) is already in the Government of India’s domain.

“We have passed a resolution, which was not done before and so the seriousness of the government is seen in that,” Sangma added.

On March 19, 2020, the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly had unanimously passed the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security (Amendment) Bill, 2020 which seeks to regulate the entry of people and their stay as tenants in the state.
