Meghalaya Dy CM Sniawbhalang Dhar unfurls tricolour in NGH

Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Friday unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtrya Salute at the ceremonial celebration of the 75th Republic Day at the Mini Stadium, Resubelpara, in North Garo Hills District.

Contingents taking part in the Republic Day parade were the Meghalaya police Battalion, NCC, Scouts & Guides of various schools and other schools of the district.

In his ceremonial speech, Dhar paid tribute to the national leaders, heroes of the soil, the other unsung heroes and the brave heart soldiers for their service to the nation.

The deputy chief minister highlighted various ongoing activities, and other developmental schemes being undertaken by the state government which were significant for the progress and prosperity of the state.

An appeal was made to work for close partnership between the government, the Meghalaya youth, women, farmers, entrepreneurs and traditional institutions for growth and development of the State.

Marking the celebration, tableau presentations by various departments showcasing departmental activities drew the attention of the crowd wherein the office of Soil & Water Conservation bagged the best tableau award. While the best March Past trophy was awarded to Resubelpara RMSA Secondary School.

Other highlights of the day were felicitation of the best employees of the district, ASHA award and athletes who brought laurels to the district during the 5th edition Meghalaya Games which concluded in Tura recently were also honoured with citations and trophies during the programme.

New Meghalaya Assembly Building to be completed by August 2024

Shillong, Oct 26: Deputy chief minister incharge PWD (Buildings) Prestone Tynsong today chaired a review meeting and informed that new building of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly at Mawdiangdiang will be completed by August 2024.

Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said, “We have reviewed everything and now the work is in good progress and I am sure they will be able to complete it as per the targeted date made by the government and that should be on or before August 2024.”

Tynsong said that construction of the new dome will also start very soon.

“Now, in fact they have cleared all the debris and the foundation is already in full swing and now they have already also ordered the prefab items and very soon it will reach the site and they will start installing all those,” he said.

The deputy CM said, “Additional cost due to the collapse is not there at all but the additional cost on the basis of additional items but I don’t have right now all the details because we need to again discuss in the high powered committee because now my review meeting is only with the PWD builidngs and the contractors and also the PMC.”

He also expressed confidence that the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly may have its first sitting in the new building in the next autumn session.
