Meghalaya Guv grants assent for Capt. Williamson Sangma University Act

Shillong, Oct 27: Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan has recently granted his assent to the Captain Williamson Sangma State University (Amendment) Act, 2023.

Informing this, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma said the Act has received the Governor’s assent with some recommendations and suggestions.

“Definitely the government will look into these recommendations and suggestions,” Sangma told reporters.

The minister also announced that the government will ensure the functioning of the Captain Williamson Sangma State University from the next academic session.

He informed that a search committee will be constituted for the appointment of the vice-chancellor, registrar and other staff. “The recruitment process will start at the earliest,” Sangma added.

The objective of the Act, which was passed by the State Assembly in March this year, is to have State Universities catering to both higher and technical education offering higher education in the fields of humanities, general sciences, engineering, physical sciences, life sciences, commerce, performing arts, professional courses, technology and related areas.

It will also provide scope for research, advancement and dissemination of knowledge therein.
