Shillong, Nov 14: Deputy chief minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong today said the government will soon come up with an office memorandum (OM) to improve the functioning of the Public Works Department (PWD).

Tynsong chaired a meeting with officials of the three departments, planning, finance and PWD here today.

He said, “A presentation was jointly done by the three departments on one issue which is how to improve the working system of the PWD be it the new road, be it the construction of the new road, be it the repairing and maintenance of the old roads.”

He said that this is because right now the state of Meghalaya is having not less than 10,000 kms of its own state’s roads excluding the national highways and the roads handed over to the NHIDCL.

“We discussed all these details and very soon we will come up with OM,” he said. He said, “In the presentation, we also discussed (the need to) categorize even the state roads that we have as to which one is a major road, which one is a minor road, which one is a village road, and which one is the most commercially viable approach roads.”
