Shillong, July 4: The Swavalambini Women Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme was held on July 2 at North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, Meghalaya. This marked the first awareness initiative following the inauguration of the Swavalambini Pilot Project by NITI Aayog.

The pilot project has been launched in five states, including three in the North East: Assam, Meghalaya, and Mizoram. The session aimed to empower and inspire women entrepreneurs by introducing them to entrepreneurship and encouraging self-reliant career paths.

The event was organised under the Swavalambini initiative by NITI Aayog and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, implemented by the Entrepreneurship Development Centre, NEHU Shillong, and the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati.

The programme aimed to build a strong culture of women-led startups in the region. With enthusiastic participation and engaging discussions, it laid a foundation for future initiatives.

Participants were encouraged to think creatively, identify local challenges, and explore entrepreneurial solutions. Through discussions, case studies, and motivational talks, attendees were introduced to the basics of business development.

Several women showcased products in food and beverages, textiles, handlooms, soft toys, and decorative items. The event encouraged young women to take risks and lead with purpose to drive social change.
