Shillong, Jan 17: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads & Buildings) Prestone Tynsong today reviewed the implementation of eight major road projects amounting to over Rs 5000 crore.

"I am happy to inform all of you that the progress of work is good," Tynsong told reporters after the meeting.

He also remarked that "There is no government in the history of Meghalaya right from 1972 till today but it is only this government from 2018 till today which can bring such projects."

"Therefore, we want to complete all these projects at the earliest as they will be a big blessing to the people and the state," Tynsong added.

The eight major road projects include: construction of Dainadubi-Darugre road (40kms) at Rs 705.83 crore, Darugre to Williamnagar (36 kms) road at Rs 801 crore , Tura-Dalu road (51kms) at Rs 610 crore, Nongstoin-Rambrai-Kyrshai road (33kms) Rs 359 crore, Shillong Western bypass package 1 is (12.8 kms) at Rs 620 crore, package II (11.90kms) at Rs 686 crore and package III (13.55 kms)Rs 562 crore, Shillong Dawki Road at Rs 1200 crore, Tura Bypass at Rs 943 crore and the High Speed Corridor from Mawlyngkhung (from that Fly Over, Umiam Lake up to Panchgram in Assam ).

"For the High-Speed Corridor project, right now survey and discussion and negotiation with the concerned rangbah shnong is still going on. We will be able to know the detailed sanction amount after DPR is completed," he said.

Stating that land acquisition is a big hurdle faced by these important road projects, Tynsong said, "75 per cent of our review meeting is being spent on land acquisition issues."

"I am happy to tell you that all these projects have been reviewed...I have instructed all the concerned departments to speed up and fasten their function because we wanted to really complete these projects at the earliest as possible and this will be the blessing for the state of Meghalaya," he said while adding "As I said we have got such a very good project throughout the state and I'm very sure within few years’ time from now we will really see the transformation that has taken place in the state of Meghalaya. So, these are the issues which we discussed today in the review meeting."

On the status of Shillong-Dawki road project, the deputy CM said, "Yes, see package I, II, IV and V I am very happy to tell you that the progress is very good and satisfactory and of course there are few issues where sometimes the land owners they said no, you cannot make, you have to stop the work because I have not receive the payment of compensation."

He informed that the Shillong-Dawki will be completed by 2026.

For package III, we don’t have any problems, package III is Pynursla Bypass and that Bypass right now is, Government of India has already approved the proposed DPR and that also comes to around Rs 564 crore," Tynsong added.

Deputy CM said, "This one we call it the Corridor Expressway as I told you it reaches up to Silchar. So the total project which is being earmarked in the budget is about 25,000 crore, including land compensation this and that for both Assam and Meghalaya. So only in Meghalaya alone it will not be less than 15,000 crore."

He said the Government of India has asked the state to ensure it is a complete project of Greenfield (where we will not connect with the existing road at all).

"We have to completely give a Greenfield, meaning we have to have a separate road altogether and we have to avoid the village, the community or we are going even avoid expansion of the existing road, so that is the meaning of the Greenfield. So the Government of India has instructed us that it should be completely a Greenfield project," he added.
