Shillong, July 8: Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal, accompanied by Sanjay Goyal, Commissioner & Secretary of the Power Department, convened an Interaction Programme at Aminda Rangsa, Gambegre, West Garo Hills, focusing on addressing electricity supply challenges.
Minister Mondal assured traditional leaders that their concerns were being prioritized, emphasizing the importance of direct engagement with officials to tackle urban and rural electricity issues effectively. He outlined a strategic vision for the next five years, aiming to achieve uninterrupted electricity supply across all villages by establishing advanced substations and enhancing voltage stability.
"A new substation is nearing completion at Damalgre, expected to operationalize within 2-3 months. Efforts are also underway to electrify three villages in Gambegre currently lacking power," Mondal affirmed. He acknowledged the impact of adverse weather conditions such as heavy rains, cyclones, and thunderstorms on power infrastructure, pledging prompt resolutions to mitigate disruptions.
The Power Minister conducted a comprehensive review of ongoing projects and schemes in Garo Hills, instructing officials to prioritize power supply maintenance, especially in the wake of frequent weather-related damages to electrical infrastructure.
Sanjay Goyal, Commissioner & Secretary of the Power Department, underscored that the meeting was convened under the guidance of the Chief Minister and the Power Minister to swiftly address community concerns related to electricity. He reiterated the department's commitment to ensuring reliable and continuous electricity supply, with a strategic focus on deploying new substations.
Goyal emphasized that such interactive sessions play a pivotal role in gathering local feedback and enhancing operational efficiency to meet the electricity needs of Garo Hills effectively.
