Shillong, March 6: A meeting of all the DGs of the North Eastern States will soon be held to ensure total peace remains on the border in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) Dr LR Bishnoi informed on Tuesday.
“The meeting will be held through video conferencing. We will share our concerns regarding the border area and they will share their concerns and we will finalize the strategies to be adopted during the election time,” Bishnoi told reporters.
Asked about the preparation for the forthcoming elections, the DGP informed that the ECI team has reviewed Assam and Meghalaya arrangement.
“In Assam, they (ECI team) were physically present and for Meghalaya, they reviewed through video conferencing,” he said while assuring “And whatever ECI guidelines will be there, we will be fully implementing and we will not allow anybody to create problems in any area or any constituency. It will be a free, fair and peaceful election.”
Regarding the deployment of paramilitary forces, the DGP said, “What the quantum of force was there, the same quantum will be deployed and if need arises, we will ask for more forces.”
He said that 12 companies will be going to other states when elections are held in phases.
Further, the DGP also informed that discussion on the classification of vulnerability and critical areas is almost completed adding he would share the data once it is being approved by the Chief electoral officer of the state.
