Shillong, Nov 29: The state government has directed the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to immediately start repairing the dilapidated portion of the Shillong-Dawki road.
After chairing a review meeting on Wednesday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “As you are aware some parts of the road are in pretty bad condition and hence, we have made immediate arrangement to ensure that the repair of the phase-IV or the 4th sector, which is more closer towards Dawki, that repair should start immediately.”
He informed that the NHIDCL has given confirmation that they will start the repair work within a few days time adding that the government has asserted the need to maintain quality while executing the work.
The CM said that the state government has asked that the construction work of the Shillong-Dawki road project should also start at the same time.
“The first package (of the project) has also been allotted already, so the contractor to whom the work was allotted, we expect that the person should be starting the work very soon. He has mobilised some machinery and some manpower and we expect that in the next week or ten days more manpower and machineries will be mobilised so that this first sector from Umshyrpi towards 7th Mile and beyond, the work should also start very soon. (We have also asked) that the contractors of the different packages start the work ASAP,” he added.
Asked, the chief minister said the project is faced with different challenges.
“Some because of utility shifting and some place, we have challenges because of land acquisition issue and in some place we have challenges because of the movement of vehicles – all the four packages are important and all have to be completed on time,” he said while asserted that the government is not going to leave any stone unturned see the NHIDCL and the contractors take their work seriously.
