Nongpoh, May 4: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) today organised a public meeting in Ri-Bhoi district to seek the support of the general public on its stand against the roster system in Meghalaya.
During the public meeting, VPP chief Ardent M Basaiamoit stated that the implementation of the roster system by the state government will deprive the right of employment for the Khasi and Jaintia people especially the young job aspirants who are hunting for government jobs.
He questioned the state government as to why the it is shying away to call for a special session to debate on this matter with the VPP and it slammed what it termed as the apathetic attitude of the government towards revoking the roster system.
He added that the party will fight for this since the party which has its agenda will not tolerate the state government depriving the right of any tribes whether this means the Khasis, Jaintias or Garos.
He also said that soon the VPP will continue with public meetings in different districts and if the state government keeps ignoring the demand, the party will be compelled to set off on a path of agitations.
