Shillong, March 26: The opposition Congress said that it yet to decide on whether to work with the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the State Assembly.
A senior leader of the Congress on request of anonymity said a decision will be taken after consulting the party's high command in Delhi.
The reason being is because the Congress is not working with AITC at the national level.
It may be mentioned here that the opposition parties are in a fix as to who should become the leader of opposition in the 11th Meghalaya Legislative Assembly considering the fact that as per rule, a party which is represented by the Leader of Opposition should have at least 10 members in the Assembly (one-sixth of the total strength of 60 members in the House) for recognition.
But the opposition parties - Congress, and TMC have five MLAs each, while the Voice of the People Party (VPP) has four MLAs, which is much below the strength of 10 members.
However, the Voice of the People Party (VPP) have already made it clear to maintain a separate identity in the Assembly.
Meanwhile, only the Congress and TMC have written to the Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma for recognition.
When asked, the Congress leader said that the party has not received any official communication from the TMC requesting the need to work together as a combine opposition.
"If they (TMC) request we will examine and take a call," he said.
