Shillong, Nov 27: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) conducted a surprise checking of Trading, Labour License and Professional Tax in all shops in the area today led by executive member (EM) in-charge of Land Teibor Pathaw and MDC of Laitumkhrah constituency Fantin Lakadong.
The inspection and checking of licenses and Professional tax were conducted by the Police from the enforcement of the KHADC to all business establishments run by non-tribal from the Fire brigade till Laitumkhrah Market.
During the inspection, it was found that many shops run by non-tribals did not possess the up-to-date papers of the Professional tax and few establishments were asked to close down until they provided the up-to-date papers to the district council, especially the Trading and Labour License.
Speaking to media persons, Lakadong informed that the executive committee (EC) of the KHADC recently decided to start conducting such inspections to make sure that business establishments, especially those owned by non-tribal companies, follow the Trading by Non-Tribals Regulations act.
“More than 80 per cent of the business establishment in Laitumkhrah areas follows the norms of the district council as most of them possess Trading and Labour License but most of them fail to produce up-to-date papers on professional tax” said Lakadong.
