Shillong, June 3: The Federation of Shillong Hotels has requested all hospitality establishments to avoid use of bottled drinking water in their respective properties which will result in reducing generation of plastic waste.
The decision taken in a joint meeting held with the Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety also advises hospitality establishments to provide clean filtered drinking water in clean glass bottles instead.
This was one of three resolutions adopted in the meeting on the occasion of the World Environment Day.
President of the Federation Parabir S Sehdave said a sticker will be made and pasted inside tourist taxis to deter travellers from littering public places and provide them with solutions to dispose of waste generated while consuming eatables inside the vehicle. Additionally the DTO will be approached by the Federation to make it mandatory for all tourist cabs to carry a small dustbin.
He said every Hotel/Restaurant is requested to plant one sapling each on June 5 and click a picture.
"The Federation is hopeful that maximum Hotels & Restaurants will abide by the appeal in order to make the state environment friendly and thereby promote Eco Tourism. The NPP Shillong City Unit has also partnered the Federation of Shillong Hotels on the occasion of the World Tourism Day," Sehdave said.
