Guwahati, June 13: An 18-year-old girl, Khushi Kumari, has gone missing under mysterious circumstances from the Basistha area of Guwahati since early Friday morning. According to her mother, Khushi left home around 8:30 a.m. to open their shop but never returned. Concerned by her prolonged absence, the family went to the shop, where they found her belongings — a bracelet, hair clip, bag, and the shop key — lying abandoned on the ground.
The family suspects foul play and fears that she may have been abducted. A formal complaint has been filed at the Basistha Police Station, and local authorities have launched an investigation and initiated search operations to locate the missing teenager. The incident has raised alarm in the area, and the community is urging swift action.
In a separate but equally disturbing development, public outrage is growing over the mysterious death of 26-year-old Rosmita Hojai from Assam’s Dima Hasao district. Hojai, a member of the Dimasa community, went missing on June 5 while travelling to Delhi to appear for a Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination. Her body was found five days later, on June 10, near a riverbank in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand.
Preliminary findings by the Uttarakhand Police suggest suicide, though they have not completely ruled out foul play. Police at the Shivpuri Station in Tehri Garhwal reported that Rosmita had a verbal altercation with her alleged boyfriend, Hemant Sharma of Mohindergarh, Delhi, at the same location where her body was discovered. Another individual, Pankaj Kokar of Rohtak, Haryana, has also been detained for questioning in connection with the case.
Authorities stated that while stress related to the exam and the argument may have affected her mental health, they await the final autopsy report to draw definitive conclusions. Meanwhile, demands for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into Hojai’s death continue to gain momentum across Assam.
