Shillong: The Executive Engineer (C) Ganol Civil Division-1, MePGCL, Tura Rongkhon has informed that as per the guidelines for the release of water from the Ganol Hydro Dam and since the monsoon is fast approaching the excess water from the Ganol Hydro Dam may be needed to be released at any time whenever the heavy rainfall occurs at the Dam Catchment area.

The excess water above the danger level of the Dam has to be released for the overall safety of the Dam and its structures and also to safeguard the Electrical and Electronic Equipment that are installed at the Dam.

Moreover, the order stated that officials of MePGCL have given several awareness programmes and announcements through loudspeakers to the villagers residing downstream of the Ganol River. The whatsapp group jointly with the Department officials and the villagers downstream has also been started last year in order to inform everyone about the release of water from the Dam.

The 16 kms radius range Siren and the 5 kms radius range Siren have also been installed at the Power House (Edenbari) and at the Dam (Chibragre) respectively to alert the people whenever the Dam gates are opened.

Therefore, the general public are requested not to venture near the Ganol Riverbanks as there might be sudden rise of the river water level during the evacuation of Flood Water from the Dam reservoir. However, all efforts will be made to regulate the release of Dam Water to the minimum.
