Imphal, June 13: Manipur has reported a resurgence of COVID-19 infections, with five active cases confirmed to date, according to the latest status update from the Directorate of Health Services.
The department revealed that 15 samples were tested on Friday, including one from Imphal East, 13 from Imphal West, and one from Tamenglong district. Of these, three individuals tested positive—one from Imphal East and two from Imphal West.
With the latest developments, the total number of COVID-19 samples tested in the state now stands at 36, out of which five have returned positive results. Four of the five individuals currently infected are under home isolation, health officials confirmed.
This marks the reappearance of the virus in the state after a lull of nearly two years. The fresh outbreak was first detected on June 1, 2025.
Since the onset of the pandemic in 2020, Manipur has recorded a total of 1,40,045 COVID-19 cases, with 1,37,893 recoveries and 2,149 fatalities.
Speaking to the media, Director of Health Services Dr. Chambo Gonmei stated that no new health advisories have been issued by the Union Health Ministry yet. However, he advised residents to remain cautious. "People should wear masks, maintain hand hygiene, and seek testing if they develop high fever or COVID-like symptoms," he said.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the state takes precautionary steps to curb a possible spread.
