Shillong, Aug 13: Troops of the 181 Battalion, BSF Meghalaya, intercepted a vehicle loaded with sugar intended for smuggling into Bangladesh and apprehended three Indian nationals in the border area of South Garo Hills district on August 12.
Acting on specific information, a BSF Mobile Check Post stopped a vehicle on suspicion near the border. Upon inspecting the vehicle, BSF recovered 1,000 kg of sugar concealed under a layer of sand. When questioned, the driver and co-drivers failed to produce any valid documents pertaining to the consignment of sugar.
The apprehended persons and the seized consignment have been handed over to the customs office Dalu for further legal formalities.
